Getting ready!

Getting ready

Getting ready

02.28.2015

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far. I loved seeing the sun today and getting Chase outside for a couple of nice walks.

I spent a little time today getting out my summer clothes. Yes, you read that correctly, SUMMER clothes! I will be on vacation soon so I wanted to see what I had available to wear. It was fun going through shorts and tops, trying them on and pairing outfits together.

I believe half the fun of vacation is the planning and anticipation. I’ve been counting the days for a while now. I am very excited to get some sun, go hiking without freezing and having to bundle up, and to swim in the ocean. It will also be a great adventure to go zipping through the rain forest and kayaking to a national park. I’m trying to talk my beau into going spelunking (caving). We’ll have to see about that one.¬† ūüôā

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. If you are on the east coast, be safe during the storm tomorrow and stay warm.

I looked out the window and saw this picture perfect scene. It’s already bitter cold outside so with the clear skies it’s bound to get even colder overnight. I guess they call this the calm before the storm . . . . . More snow coming on Sunday. Oh goody.

I will try to get more eagle photos Saturday.

I’m sorry this will be a short post tonight. My dog just brought over his toy so it’s time to play!

Taking a rest

Taking a rest

02.26.2015

Yesterday was a traumatic day for my dog Chase. He is normally very happy and healthy but he needed to visit the vet for a treatment so he can get healthy again. I think the medicine is making him lethargic. He’s been getting some extra attention, staying with my Mom while I’m at work. He has a follow up with the vet in about a week and should be just fine.

But in the meantime it’s difficult to see him not feeling well. I wish we could explain what’s going on to them to make it easier. Our pets are family. Dogs love unconditionally, they are always excited to see us, and they are great companions.

We should be more like dogs: love people we care about without conditions, be excited to see loved ones, and be a good friend to others. Oh, and one more thing, take naps when possible!¬† ūüôā

As you can tell from the photos, I had fun out there today! Although the three photos above are of the same eagle, it was much closer than the one yesterday. I believe there were four of them flying around. But this one gave me many opportunities to photograph it. For which I was thankful!

I absolutely love being out in nature – walking, hiking, running, biking, and above all, photographing it!

These eagles have been a special treat for me and everyone in the area as they are not common here. They truly are a majestic bird and worthy of being our national symbol expressing freedom.

I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed watching the eagles soar and taking photos of them.

Seagulls fighting over a fish

Seagulls fighting over a fish

02.24.2015

During my lunch I headed back out to where I thought the eagles might be. I saw three of them in flight and one landed on the frozen lake. The two photos above are of the eagle preparing to land. It was pretty far from me and these were the best photos that I took, although still not that close or well defined. I’ll keep trying.

The last photo is of two seagulls fighting over a fish. In the background you can see many “things” sticking out of the water. These are the fins of more fish. I thought it was funny these two were fighting over a fish when there were many more out there.

So let that be a lesson to you (well, two lessons)¬†– Keep trying and there are many fish in the sea. So, I’ll keep trying to photograph the eagles and I’ll remember that even though others may have something I want (like the opportunity to photograph the eagles up close)¬†that doesn’t mean it’s not available to me. It could be right there if I just look around.

A break in the ice

Ducks in the water outlet

02.23.2015

Someone at work today¬†(thank you¬†Mike) told me about this place, a break in the ice. It was at the foot of East Avenue here in Erie, PA. He said eagles had been spotted here. So immediately after work I drove there. Although I did not see any eagles, I did photograph some ducks enjoying the warm water. That’s steam coming off the water.

I wanted to take more photos¬†but it was only 3 degrees and even colder real feel with the wind coming off the lake.¬†My fingers were hurting like you wouldn’t believe. It took several minutes back in the car to get them warm again!

I’ll try to go back there again soon, perhaps when the temperature & real feel is above single digits. Just saying.

Playing on the farm

Deer on the farm

02.22.2015

I hope everyone enjoyed a nice weekend. It was certainly good for me since I was able to catch up on some much needed rest.

While out on the property at the farm today we spotted these deer. I took the photo above¬†from about 500 yards away so it’s not real clear but for sure you can see them.

Earlier on our walk there were turkeys. It took a while for the dogs to figure out they were there ahead of us. But once they did the chase was on! Of course at this point I was changing a lens and did not capture the turkey waddling away or taking flight. So, this was the next best thing we saw on our walk.

While on our travels yesterday we saw a robin!!!! No kidding!! We saw another one today. There is hope. Remember to look around and enjoy nature. Soon we’ll be able to see more than just snow!

Playing with photo filters

Playing with filters

02.21.2015

Today was a long day with my beau. However, I did get an idea of what his days are like. I didn’t want to sit at the house so I joined him in the truck while he fixed furnaces on emergency service calls. They kept coming today!

I always have my camera with me because I never know when a great photo will present itself. We were at this one house and I saw this snow covered tree in front of the truck. I put the window down, leaned out, and captured the above photo.

My camera has filters built in so I added the blue tint to take the photo (rather than a black & white). Then after I had the photo, I added the fisheye filter. It gave the photo that awesome effect. I enjoyed seeing the final result. You can really tell at the bottom of the filter because the snow is not a flat line but rounded.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

02.20.2015

I got to the farm tonight just in time to see this. If you look to the top of the photo you’ll see the crescent moon with Venus. Mars is above those but it didn’t show up in the photo.

I love escaping to here for the weekend, just an hour from home but it’s a world away sometimes. When I’m at my home I feel like I should be doing things like cleaning, or going through papers, or any number of things. Here I can just relax, play outside (when the weather cooperates), take photos, sleep in, and just rest.

I hope you too can relax and enjoy the weekend. Bad weather is coming in tomorrow until Sunday morning. Hang in there and remember Spring is just 28 days away.

Two of my favorite people

I visited my Mom this evening. She’s good people. Chase enjoys playing with her and spending weekends there when I’m out of town.

Here they are playing together. Mom is holding his treat and Chase is growling playfully like he’s going to tear it from her hand.

Mom made me an excellent dinner – gotta love those home cooked meals. And then of course Mom made sure Chase has his treats after dinner.

Well folks, try to stay warm if you’re here on the east coast. This weather is sure to break soon . . . . I hope.
