Mother Nature didn’t get the memo

Goose in the snow

Goose in the snow

03.31.2015

So this morning I woke up to snow. Yes, snow and a lot of it. Blah. I guess Mother Nature didn’t get the memo about it being SPRING! This goose doesn’t look happy either.

Let’s hope this is winter’s last hurrah.

I’m almost finished going through vacation photos and will post shortly. Thanks for hanging n there with me!

A confession & positive outcome

Clouds

Clouds

03.30.2015

It’s good to be back! I was on vacation last week and had intended to post while I was gone; however, I was too busy relaxing and having a ton of fun. I will post vacation photos soon. But for today, I decided to post this photo I took while walking my dog.

I must confess that while on vacation there were two days I did not take a photo. One day was a travel day – getting through customs, catching planes, and trying to sleep in between did not provide much scenery for me to photograph. The other day was the day after the travel day. We did not get back home and settled until about 3:30am. I was in a fog all day long and only once though of grabbing the camera but just didn’t do it.

Normally I would beat myself up over this, talk negative about how I did not make my goal of taking a photo every day, and how I have disappointed myself. But this kind of talk would not be positive or helpful. And it’s okay that I missed a couple days. Sometimes life gets in the way of our goals. I was having a great adventure and enjoying myself! Every day was a good day. It was the best vacation!

So in my quest to live with no regrets and to be more positive, I am moving on. This will not be an excuse to throw in the towel. I will continue to photograph every day. As this evening’s photo shows, sometimes clouds come into our life and instead of complaining or lamenting, I appreciate the beauty the have added to the photo, and to my life.

SPRING!!!!!

Spring is here!

Spring is here!

03.20.2015

I do believe Spring has arrived! I heard parts South and East of here were getting snow today. We had sunshine instead! And when I got home from work today, these were there to greet me – daffodils. Yay!

It was a very long hard winter. I’m so glad spring is making its appearance, finally!

I wish all of you a great weekend! I’ll try to post each day but it will be a busy weekend for me.

Get out there and enjoy warmer temperatures and take note of nature around you.

When I first took this photo I had it so the lamp post was not there. Then I moved the camera to include it and I liked how it added to the photo.

Sometimes we see obstacles in the way but they really aren’t obstacles and the end up added to our lives. You just never know.

As a side note, I spent time with family tonight going out for Chinese. My fortune cookie said this: Enjoy Life. This is not a dress rehearsal.

I thought that was so fitting for me and what this journey is all about. So very cool that it was in my cookie!

Sliver of the moon

03.18.2015

I took this Wednesday morning shortly after I got to work. I didn’t notice it until just as I arrived. I thought it looked so neat so I wanted to capture it.

Life has been hectic the past two weeks. I’m still keeping up with all of my goals – reading, writing, photography, and taking care of family. Perhaps one of my goals should also be taking care of me (meaning down time)!

So there is today’s wisdom: It’s okay to spoil yourself every so often and just to something for yourself.

Another lighthouse

Presque Isle Lighthouse

Presque Isle Lighthouse

03.17.2015

As promised, here is another lighthouse. This is inside Presque Isle State Park, one of my favorite places to visit any time of the year.

So my question to you is what is the name of this lighthouse? How is it identified?

I hope everyone is enjoying their week. The warmer temperatures were nice yesterday and helped to lift my spirits. The sun this afternoon also felt nice. I heard birds chirping this morning while I was walking my dog in the rain. Hey, better than snow and I loved hearing the birds.

Stay tuned. I’ll try to get another lighthouse tomorrow!

I think I actually got this photo dead on straight! I changed this to black & white on the computer. Looks pretty good to me, if I do say so myself. It was a rough day at work so I just needed out of there for a bit during lunch. I had no particular photo I was looking after. My car led me here and I captured this one.

No words of wisdom, except maybe to remind you to “breathe” every so often and look around you. Be mindful of your actions.

Chilling out

Chase

Chase

03.15.2015

Chase and I enjoyed a day of being lazy. I did manage to get most of the laundry done but that was about it. I took two naps during the day and read when not sleeping. I needed down time and I certainly got it.

I noticed while walking my dog both this morning and evening a wonderful, melodic sound wafting to my ears . . . . birds, many of them, chirping away. That made me smile greatly!

I missed a lot of work last week so I will be catching up this week along with working ahead on a couple of projects.

So today was about me and sometimes you just need that.

Showing you care

Flowers

Flowers

03.14.2015 (PI day lol)

This flower is part of a bouquet sent to me. I had just arrived at my Mom’s house to check on her and this van pulls down her no outlet lane. Mom was anxiously looking out the window. I explained they were probably lost. But she said I should get the door. Much to my surprise the gentleman was not lost and came to the door with this beautiful bouquet of flowers, with a teddy bear hugging the vase. The deliverer stated they were for Melissa.

I was very confused as Mom should be the one getting flowers, not me. However, when I read the card, I smiled. “To reinforce how much I appreciate all you do in caring for Mom! Love you.” One of my sisters did this for me.

A while back I learned about the love languages by Gary Chapman. Not everyone shows their love in the same way. Some people show it by their actions – this is me. I don’t say “love you” very often to anyone; however, my actions show how much I care, hence my care for my Mom. In return I just need to know people appreciate what I do for them. That is my validation. My sister had already thanked me, along with my other siblings (there are seven of us left). She went beyond words to show her appreciation. Certainly not necessary but very much enjoyed by both myself and my Mom.

So remember, in my humble opinion, actions speak louder than words. Take advantage of every single day for you don’t know if it’s your last. I live with no regrets. To love and to live are action verbs. If you aren’t living you’re just existing and that’s no way to live.

Ahhh a welcomed sight

Time for bed

Time for bed

03.13.2015

Friday was a difficult day. I had to make some decisions for my Mom’s care as she was being released from the hospital with no diagnosis as to why she was sick, only that there was nothing more they could do for her. I was like, What the ??? As she put it, she was a mystery.

I took her home, got her settled, and then realized I was completely exhausted. I just had enough. Mom sent me home for a nap. My unmade bed with my sleepy dog were a beautiful sight! I slept for about 90 minutes then ordered dinner for us and took it over.

I slept about another eight hours, my body totally giving in to the much needed respite. Don’t worry, I still haven’t made my bed but will shortly when I get back to my normal routine!

Thanks so much for being patient with me and the late posts. My goal was to always take a photo each day and I have done that and am so proud of myself for sticking to it!
