Prairie dogs

07.06.2017

While visiting Devil’s Tower I got to photograph these prairie dogs playing, perhaps kissing. It was fun to watch and photograph.

I have a ton of photos to share of Devil’s Tower and then waterfalls in Spearfish, SD. But I’m rather tired. I will leave you with this one thought: live every day as if it were an adventure. Life is exciting and each day should be lived to the fullest.

Fun fact: the plants behind the smooching critters appear to be a type of milkweed. Both milkweed and prairie dogs were once considered nuisance species that needed to be eradicated. Of course, we know now that milkweed is vital for the survival of monarch butterflies, while prairie dogs are a keystone species vital to the health of this disappearing habitat, providing food and shelter for hundreds of other animals while keeping the landscape open. An important lesson on not judging a book by its cover, and a reminder that we’re all connected in ways we could never imagine!!
