The beauty of sunrise

North Pier Lighthouse at Presque Isle State Park

12.07.2017

I was tired. But instead of rolling over in my bed, I dragged myself out and headed North to Presque Isle. I was hoping the sunrise would be nice. There were clouds but that only enhanced the beauty of the morning.

That’s just like life. Clouds will pass over us and sometimes even dump on us, and keep dumping. But then we come out on the other side of what happens to us and we’re better for it. We learn lessons from the failure and hurts and we’re better individuals. So don’t dread the clouds (unless they’re snow clouds lol) and get through it. Don’t let people get you down. Let your colors shine through. You’ll be a better person for it. And yes, I’m speaking from experience.

I hope everyone enjoyed a great weekend. I sure had a nice time at the farm. Often times upon awaking in the morning I take the dogs for their morning walk and take my camera along. I was not disappointed Sunday morning as I was greeted with the dew burning off into the sunrise. Simply beautiful. The lighting was perfect – all natural.

I also captured the sunset Saturday evening. If you look closely at the window on the side of the hay barn, you can see a reflection of the sunset. I thought that was pretty cool.

Even though the farm is only an hour away from home and just 2 miles from the Outlets, I feel a world away there. It’s so peaceful and beautiful. I love stepping out of the city into this world. I encourage everyone to find such a place to escape to, if only for a day, or an hour. Nature is an excellent place to be.

When I first took this photo I had it so the lamp post was not there. Then I moved the camera to include it and I liked how it added to the photo.

Sometimes we see obstacles in the way but they really aren’t obstacles and the end up added to our lives. You just never know.

As a side note, I spent time with family tonight going out for Chinese. My fortune cookie said this: Enjoy Life. This is not a dress rehearsal.

I thought that was so fitting for me and what this journey is all about. So very cool that it was in my cookie!

We had an uncommon occurrence today at daybreak – the sun was actually visible! Since I start work before sunrise I usually don’t get to see it either way. This morning I happened into the kitchen at work (one of a few precious areas with windows) and I saw this brilliant cityscape before me. I keep my camera with me continually, even at work. I removed it from my backpack and walked outside to capture this rare scene here in Erie, PA during the winter.

There were so many colors brilliantly filling the sky and cityscape. It took my breath away. It reminded me of a nephew’s depiction calling it “sky blue pink.”

Dawn and dusk are what photographers call the golden hours (or sometimes blue hours). The light is so dramatic during these times. It’s a special kind of light that enhances landscapes casting stunning colors not seen during the day. These are my favorite times to photograph, along with cloudy days where the sun doesn’t cast harsh shadows. There’s your photography lesson for the day!

I hope your week is going well and that you are still enjoying my blog. I believe this is day 38, the longest I’ve gone taking a photo every day. Only 327 more days to go! If I can take time this weekend I’ll post the photos from last Friday thru Sunday. Most days I am surprised by what’s around me to photograph. I have learned what makes a photo, even if it isn’t an outdoor landscape.

So don’t forget to look around you every so often , take a breath, and “see” what’s there.
